Water Works Park in Des Moines has a great natural playscape next to the Lauridsen Amphitheater. The playscape has lots of places to climb, a swing and a sand play area.
Just a short walk from there is the Arie den Boer Arboretum, where crabapple trees blossom each spring. There are restrooms very close to the playscape, which are open year-round.
