JASPER COUNTY: Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge

 

Today's visit to the Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge was cold and windy.  The Prairie Learning Center has now re-opened with new Covid hours, but is closed on Sundays, so we weren't able to go inside.

The Tallgrass Trail behind the Prairie Learning Center is a 2 mile paved loop.  We were able to see one bison from the trail.

We ended our visit with a 1/2 mile hike on the Oak Savanna Trail.  There are vault restrooms available year-round near the Prairie Learning Center and the Oak Savanna Trail.
