Winter Creek Walking at Ledges State Park - Madrid, Iowa

We love creek walking in all four seasons at Ledges State Park.  In the winter, Canyon Drive is closed however parking is available in the Oak Woods Picnic Area and the Flood Pole Parking Lot.  All the restrooms are closed in the winter, but there's a pit toilet available near the campground entrance.

We parked in the picnic area near the Canyon Drive entrance, but in hindsight we should have parked in the lower lot because it was a long hike back up the hill after creek walking.

It was interesting to see how different the creek looked during our walk.  Some areas were snow covered, some were slushly, some had rippled sheets of ice and other areas had large holes in the ice where you could see the water quickly flowing below the ice.
