Peterson Park in Ames has hiking trails and a swimming beach. The park is also known Peterson Pits because it's an old mining area containing three gravel pits. Today was very windy and we heard a lot of trees creaking during our hike, which had my boys running down the trail certain the trees were going to fall.
For those visiting in the summer who might be interested in the beach. The water is tested every Tuesday in June, July and August and results are posted on Fridays.
