Minnesota: Hiking at Dry Lake in Ely

 

Bass Lake and Dry Lake in the Superior National Forest are located just north of Ely, Minnesota.  The trailhead parking lot has restrooms available.

We hiked 3 miles around Dry Lake today and it was a beautiful, but tough hike.  There are signs and maps posted along the trail and I appreciated how well marked the trail was.  However, there were a couple confusing spots where I was wishing I had downloaded the All Trails map before we lost cell reception.

My brother's family has younger children and opted to hike just to Dry Falls which is 1 mile each way and that portion of the trail is an easier hike.  The waterfall has a "bathtub" area that you can swim in and we saw many people jump off the falls and swim in the lake below.
