Winter Hiking at Margo Frankel Woods - Des Moines, Iowa

 

It's almost spring, but there's still still snow and ice on the trails at Margo Frankel Woods.  Our hike today totaled 2.3 miles and my kids enjoyed walking on the frozen streams that meander through the woods.  

There's a playground near the main parking lot and a second smaller playground further back.  While hiking just look for the wooden stairs to reach the smaller playground.  There are seasonal vault restrooms next to each playground.  

The gate to the main parking lot is still closed for the season, however there's room for about five cars to park in front of it.  The gate to the secondary parking lot by the smaller playground is only open when there's a reservation for the picnic shelter.
