We really enjoyed hiking at Dolliver Memorial State Park today. There are almost no fall colors yet, but it was still a beautiful day for a hike. We started on the Copperas Trail, which is a 1.3 mile loop. The trailhead is near the large parking lot by the South Lodge, which has modern restrooms and many shaded picnic tables nearby.
The trail leads to unique sandstone formations known as the Copperas Beds, named for the mineral deposits left behind from erosion of the stone. The copperas deposits can be seen on logs, sticks and even in the sandstone itself.
It's fairly easy to follow the Copperas Trail, but we struggled with the Boneyard Trail. Due to weak cell reception at the park, I should have downloaded the AllTrails map ahead of time.
The modern restrooms are still open for the season, but will close soon. There are two restrooms open off season - one at the start of the Boneyard Trail, near the North Shelter, and one at the end of the Boneyard Trail, near the campground.
